“Old Growth White Pine in Early Fall” is offered as a custom fine art color photographic print, signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. This image was captured before the Ancient Old Growth Eastern Hemlocks in Central PA were decimated.

I captured this subject in Kodak E100SW transparency film with an Ebony 4×5 camera and 150mm Rodenstock Sironar S lens in Alan Seeger Natural Area in Rothrock State Forest, Pennsylvania.

The old growth forest within Alan Seeger has changed due to the loss of the Hemlock trees but the many White Pines remain. Other old growth in the area have suffered ecosystem changing damage from the plight of the Hemlocks that will require perhaps a millennium to regenerate fully if left completely alone.

This early autumn portrait of a White Pine tree was captured during a foggy late afternoon in mid October. The lighting on this afternoon rendered the images captured in a painterly fashion as a layer of fog enveloped the upper reaches of forest canopy. I was drawn to the contrast of the pine needles as well as the soft, almost pastel colors within the forest canopy. The same lighting conditions remained the following morning until the sun finally burned away the high fog that had allowed this image to be captured.

This image was taken during a side trip to the Natural Area on my way to a show featuring my Cibachrome prints of the “Central Pennsylvania Old Growth Forests” in 1999.

This limited Edition Print will be Signed and Numbered. Pricing includes the print only with a white border and includes free shipping unless otherwise noted. This Print Requires Framing (see detailed info below).

Description

“Old Growth White Pine in Early Fall” is offered as a limited edition, color fine art photographic print. I captured this subject in Alan Seeger Natural Area in Rothrock State Forest, Pennsylvania on Kodak 4×5 E100SW transparency film with an Ebony 4×5 view camera and 150mm APO Rodenstock Sironar S APO lens.

The drum scan of the 4×5 transparency assures print sizes to 52 x 65 (and larger) are critically sharp at extremely close viewing distances. All images are as I saw them and imaged with only color, brightness, shadow and contrast & local light and shadow adjustments, just as I did in the darkroom.

This is a museum quality fine art print in Color. There is also a black and white version of this image taken with TMax B&W sheet film available in the Black and White Intimate Landscapes collection.

    Included in Your Print Purchase:

  • Pricing includes the print only, shipped flat to 16 x 20 or rolled in a tube mailer for larger sizes.
  • Framing, Presentation and Preservation:

  • All prints will require a frame, glass and backing material that matches print size. (Frames usually come 1/8” oversized to accommodate the glass, print and backing, please verify.)
  • Borderless Framing (meaning no cut matboard): All prints include a white border containing the number and signature.
  • Again, the white borders of the print assure that a cut mat board is not required for framing an Archival Print.
  • Acid Free white foamcore is a good choice for backing in .25” thickness. An Acid Free matboard is optional between the backer board and the print.
  • Glass Options (“the Glazing”): Classic AR Glass, Museum Glass or other UV glass or a UV Acrylic as the “Glazing” (again meaning Glass) is highly recommended for UV protection and to protect the print. Classic AR Glass and Museum Glass are Anti-Reflective which greatly enhances viewing the print.
  • No spray or coating is required or recommended on any of our prints, please refrain from any such treatment.
  • Other Framing Options: We can help with the framing in several molding styles and glazing options or steer you in the right direction for the perfect framing materials that assure archival print endurance.
