“Ancient White Pine, Black River #1” is offered as a custom fine art color photographic print, signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity.

I captured this image in 4×5 transparency sheet film with an Ebony view camera and Rodenstock Sironar S 135mm lens near the Black River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This image was of an ancient silvery White Pine, with deeply creviced bark among many within a small true virgin old growth forest that I stumbled upon.

This “Tree Portrait” is one of several captured in a small, unlisted old growth White Pine Forest in the Upper Peninsula. I discovered this area while in search of cascades for my black and white intimate landscapes. A steep climb up and embankment led into what seemed to be a completely untouched grove of ancient White Pine and Hemlocks. These White Pines in particular were the largest, and likely the oldest I have found in the UP. The ground was as soft as a mattress with little undergrowth due to the permanent shade from the dense conifer canopy, all signs of true old growth. This area revealed many willing and patient subjects for my old growth tree portrait collection.

“Ancient White Pine, Black River #1” is offered as a limited edition, fine art Color photographic print. I captured this subject in Fuji RDP 4×5 transparency film with an Ebony 4×5 view camera and Rodenstock Sironar S 135mm lens near the Black River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

There is also a Black and White version of this image available in the Black and White Intimate Landscapes collection. The drum scan of the 4×5 transparency assures print sizes to 40 x 50 are critically sharp at extremely close viewing distances. All images are as I saw them and imaged with only color, brightness, shadow and contrast & local light and shadow adjustments, just as I did in the darkroom. 

This is a museum quality fine art print in Color. Price includes the print, shipped flat to 24 x 30 and rolled in a tube mailer for larger sizes. Print only, includes white border, click image to see example for largest print size. Print requires frame that matches print size.  The print border assures that no mat board is required for framing. Classic AR Glass, Museum Glass or other UV glass or acrylic as the “Glazing” is highly recommended for UV protection and to protect the print.
