I captured this urban landscape with a Fuji Digital Medium Format Camera and a Contax 645 120mm Planar lens.

I captured this intimate urban landscape under Interstate 90 in the suburbs of Chicago during a late afternoon in July. This image was taken as the wall cloud of a severe thunderstorm just arrived from the west. The sky had darkened and a longer exposure was required with a stopped down lens to keep the entire scene in focus. As a result, the suddenly very choppy water of the river was softened while the concrete structure of the bridge remains perfectly sharp.

The tri-pillared support under the eastbound lanes frame the dark looming clouds. I just barely had enough time to full capture this image before gale force winds hit along with sideways rain. The 200 foot run to the car with my tripod over my shoulder resulted in a thoroughly drenched photographer. This pure and honest black and white image is what was captured on that day and no elements were added or changed through AI.

As is normal with my urban landscapes, I carefully composed this urban intimate landscape with a wider angle lens and then captured twelve detailed images to produce the final large format 3:4 aspect ratio print file. Print sizes to 48 x 56 are critically sharp at extremely close viewing distances.

Limited Edition, fine art black and white photographic print, “Under Interstate 90 Bridge, Before a Storm” was shot in Fuji digital medium format with a Contax 645 120mm Planar Lens in the Chicago suburbs.

 Print sizes to 48″ x 56″, and larger, are critically sharp at extremely close viewing distances. All images are what I saw with only color, brightness, shadow and contrast & local light and shadow adjustments, just as I did in the darkroom. 

This is a museum quality fine art print in black and white.

    Included in Your Print Purchase:

  • Pricing includes the print only, shipped flat to 16 x 20 or rolled in a tube mailer for larger sizes.

    • Framing, Presentation and Preservation:

  • All prints will require a frame, glass and backing material that matches print size. (Frames usually come 1/8” oversized to accommodate the glass, print and backing, please verify.)
  • Borderless Framing (meaning no cut matboard): All prints include a white border containing the number and signature.
  • Again, the white borders of the print assure that a cut mat board is not required for framing an Archival Print.
  • Acid Free white foamcore is a good choice for backing in .25” thickness. An Acid Free matboard is optional between the backer board and the print.
  • Glass Options (“the Glazing”): Classic AR Glass, Museum Glass or other UV glass or a UV Acrylic as the “Glazing” (again meaning Glass) is highly recommended for UV protection and to protect the print. Classic AR Glass and Museum Glass are Anti-Reflective which greatly enhances viewing the print.
  • No spray or coating is required or recommended on any of our prints, please refrain from any such treatment.
