“Old Growth Red Pine Trio #1” is offered as a custom fine art color photographic print, signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. This image was captured before the Ancient Old Growth Eastern Hemlocks in Central PA were decimated.

I captured this subject in Kodak transparency sheet film with an Ebony 4×5 camera and 180mm Rodenstock Sironar S lens in Detweiler Run Natural Area, Rothrock State Forest, Pennsylvania.

This image of three old growth Red Pines, growing as one under the thick Hemlock canopy, was captured on an early fall day. This trio of pines was finally reaching a height where it could compete with the surrounding old growth Hemlocks after having been stunted, growing slowly in the shade. This tree portrait is a tight composition of the only Red Pines that I had ever seen in Detweiler. There is also a black and white image that I took just after this with B&W sheet film.

“Old Growth Red Pine Trio #1” is offered as a limited edition, fine art color photographic landscape print. I captured this subject on Kodak transparency film with an Ebony 4×5 camera and 180mm Rodenstock Sironar S lens in Detweiler Run Natural Area, Rothrock State Forest, PA.

There is also a color version of this image that was taken immediately prior. The drum scan of the 4×5 transparency assures print sizes to 56 x 70 are critically sharp at extremely close viewing distances. All images are as I saw them and imaged with only color, brightness, shadow and contrast & local light and shadow adjustments, just as I did in the darkroom.

    • Framing, Presentation and Preservation:

  • All prints will require a frame, glass and backing material that matches print size. (Frames usually come 1/8” oversized to accommodate the glass, print and backing, please verify.)
  • Borderless Framing (meaning no cut mat board): All prints include a white border containing the number and signature.
  • Again, the white borders of the print assure that a cut mat board is not required for framing an Archival Print.
  • Acid Free white foam core is a good choice for backing in .25” thickness. An Acid Free mat board is optional between the backer board and the print.
  • Glass Options (“the Glazing”): Classic AR Glass, Museum Glass or other UV glass or a UV Acrylic as the “Glazing” (again meaning Glass) is highly recommended for UV protection and to protect the print. Classic AR Glass and Museum Glass are Anti-Reflective which greatly enhances viewing the print.
  • No spray or coating is required or recommended on any of our prints, please refrain from any such treatment.
