Nineteen Mile Brook #4 – Fine Art Landscape Print from 4×5 Transparency Film

“Nineteen Mile Brook #4”, in the New Hampshire’s White Mountains, is offered as a custom fine art color photographic print, signed and numbered with a certificate of authenticity.

I photographed this subject in Kodak E100SW 4×5 transparency film, to capture the detail and subtle pastel color palette and deep contrast of the granite rock formation and large boulder in the foreground. Higher up, along a favorite trail in the White Mountains, I discovered this scene, thankfully basked in soft lighting. I had been here before where this chute of clear water emerged from behind the giant boulder in the foreground and the granite slab on the far side of the stream but the lighting was never right. In late August the water flow was just right and the lighting allowed everything to be exposed perfectly. With film, everything always had to be just right or a successful image was impossible with a scene featuring flowing water and rocks.

To get everything in focus, I had to critically focus on the ground glass, stop the lens down to f32 and capture the image with a four second exposure. I also switched film holder to take a B&W image on negative sheet film that is featured in the Black and White Intimate Landscapes collection. The Ebony 4×5 view camera and ultra sharp 135mm APO Rodenstock Sironar S APO lens captured every minute detail which allows for sharp detailed prints of this memorable “intimate landscape” capture.
